Joined by the new google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. these two new Android phones reinforce how important it is to optimize hardware and software.
Google Has Two new Pixel phones for you: the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. We know they’ve been working for quite some time, not just because of the endless leaks, because Google itself ripped off the wallpaper in August when it showed a new custom-made processor that would strengthen the pair. None of this prevented the new Pixels from becoming the most hype-up Android phone of the year.
These are by far the most featured pixel smartphones, but most of these smartphones rely on tensors, chips made from Google startups to handle complex machine-learning (ML) algorithms. The company says the chip improves every feature of the pixel, from Night Sight on the camera to voice dictation on the keyboard.
On paper, Google’s new Pixels have all the features you’d expect on a phone priced at $ 700 and up, but the Pixel 6 starts at $ 599- $ 100 cheaper than last year’s Pixel. The Pixel 6 Pro, which has a few extra camera features that we’ve dived to below, starts at 8 899. That price also lowers the “Pro” version of the device from manufacturers like OnePlus, Samsung and Apple.
Here’s how they differ:
The Pixel 6: has a 90-hertz screen refresh rate, similar to last year’s Pixel 5, and a 1,080 x 2,400-pixel resolution. The Tensor chip, which Google says delivers 80 percent faster performance than its Qualcomm-powered predecessor, is paired with 8GB of RAM. It has a 4,524-mAh battery cell, which Google says should last more than a day. There’s also a microSD card slot (not a headphone jack), but in the Pixel 6, you can choose between 128 or 256 GB of storage options.
Pixel 6 Pro: You get a higher 1,440 x 3,120-pixel resolution and 120-Hz screen refresh rate, which Google says can reduce the screen to 10-Hz if not too much to save battery life. The larger size means a larger capacity of 4,905-mAh and you also get 12GB of RAM. And if you record lots of video, there are additional 512GB storage options. The Proteus has a special Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, which can help it locate other UWB devices, such as the new iPhone 13 Apple AirTag. Google has said it will launch “several features” that will use UWB in the coming months but we still don’t know what those will be.
Camera upgrade

Pixel phones are known for their stellar cameras, but their lead has dwindled. To deal with this, Google is upgrading its imaging hardware. Both the Pixel and Pixel Pro Pro have the same original camera, a 50-megapixel large 1 / 1.311-inch sensor that can absorb 150 percent more light than the Pixel 5. The camera uses a mechanism called pixel binning, where the pixels are combined to absorb more light, so you end up with a 12.5-megapixel image.
Both share the same 12-megapixel ultraviolet camera, and the Pixel 6 Pro has an additional 4x optical zoom 48-megapixel telephoto camera. It’s not the first pixel phone with a zoom sensor, but it’s the first triple-camera system. Unlike the Pixel 6, which has only optical image stabilization in its main camera, the Proteus has it in every single lens. This means that cameras should be less prone to blurring due to handshakes (and more stable video).
Fixed-focus selfie cameras differ between the two. The Pixel 6 has an 8-megapixel shooter that can only handle 1080p at 30 frames per second, but the Pixel 6 Pro’s 11-MP selfie camera can do 4K at 30 fps.
There are new camera modes to simulate faster speeds and longer exposures. The action pane lets you simulate motion in a picture, such as when a cyclist or train passes by. You’ll find a motion blur effect around the subject, something you can only do with the camera app that includes manual mode.
Long exposure mimics the effect of keeping the shutter open for long periods of time. With this mode, you can create a car-like effect on a highway, or a smooth and creamy look like a waterfall.
