The KIA EV9 Electric Concept – design
resembles a boxy silhouette like a telluride that has been on sale in the United States for two years. Further, the thin L-shaped DRL on either side of the front fascia, the huge wheel arch, a flat roof line, and the vertical proportions undoubtedly resonate with the style of the telluride. The main difference, though, lies with a closed front front nose. The small round LED components are assembled in holes in the front which is very premium to look at. Black-out columns give a floating effect to the roof which further enhances its aesthetics. Inside, it has an interesting setup – with three-seat mode; Activate, pause and enjoy. For the driver, there is an ultra-wide 27-inch HD display. The Kia EV9 electric SUV concept ceiling is influenced by a large glass sunroof. A thin cluster of LED taillights extends from the D-pillar to the rear fender on either side of the tailgate. It is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Seven – Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The Kia EV9 has a length of 4930mm, a width of 2055mm, a height of 1790mm, and a wheelbase of 3100mm. Compared to the telluride, it is shorter, but has a longer wheelbase and a wider body.
Architecture and Specs
the EV9 is based on the same Hyundai Motor Group’s (HMG) E-GMP architecture that currently underpins the EV6. The architecture will underpin a host of upcoming electric models from both Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands, including Hyundai Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60 and other choices. Compared to the IC-powered Telluride, the EV9 can be expected to be offered with an all-wheel-drive setup. Although Kia has not released any specific information about the powertrain of the upcoming electric SUV, it can draw its power from a large lithium-ion battery near 100 kWh capacity. It will be available in both single- and dual-motor configurations, later offering AWD functionality. Kia claims that it will have a driving range of 480 kilometers.
