As technology advances, news of new discoveries is constantly coming before us. After the self-driving car, the focus of the discussion this time is the ‘robot’ car. Which is a few more steps ahead in technology. This time, Jidu Auto, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of Chinese internet service provider Baidu, has unveiled a model of their first ‘robot’ vehicle. The car door is automatic. It can be run with full voice commands. The car was launched at an online press conference on Baidur’s Metavers-themed app Xirang.
Jidu is a subsidiary of Baidur which manufactures electric vehicles. Jidur is co-founded by the Chinese company Geely. Mass production of this robot car is planned to start from 2023. The production model is said to be 90% similar to the sample model. The robot car has been given Level 4 capability to move automatically. That means the car will be able to move on the road without any driver. It also has Qualcomm’s 8295 chip, so its voice assistance will work on weak internet connection.
After Tesla’s success in commercializing automobiles, Baidu succeeded in building robotic cars. Needless to say, the competition that Tesla will have to face in the world market. Where Baidu developed the car’s automated driving software technology, Jidu has two leaders and 12 cameras. Let me tell you, a leader is a radar-like detection system. It uses pulsed laser light instead of radio wave.
Regarding the car, Jidur chief executive Joe Xia Eping said, “Jidur Roboca will fully meet the needs of its customers.” He added, “The ultimate goal is to experience a completely driverless transport experience.” Needless to say, world-class technology has been used in it. The car will be built in Hangzhou Bay, a city east of Ningbo in China. The car will cost 200,000 yuan (about 23.28 lakh rupees).
